Cambodia's Tonle Sap, is one of the unique geographical wonders of the world. The amazing lake is the largest in S.E. Asia, fills with the waters of the Mekong in May when the Mekon Delta is unable to absorb all the river water. The river reverses its normal seaward flow and backs up the Tonle Sap River bringing flooding into the lake, swelling the lake from 160km. to 250 km and over 100km. wide. There are approx. 1.4 million people living in and around the lake and river banks. The great lake yields many tons of fish and provide sustenance to the people there. There are 300 species of fresh water fish and the wetlands provide homes to the hundreds of thousands migratory birds.
